Abstract
1,172,859. Pickling steel before electrotinning. STEEL CO. OF WALES Ltd. Oct. 12, 1967 [Oct. 17, 1966], No.46379/66. Heading C7B. In electro-tinning steel, the steel is first pickled in a bath containing only dilute aqueous nitric acid. Pickling may be effected either by simple immersion or by electrolysis using a nitric acid concentration of 1 to 100 g/1 at a temperature of 10 to 90‹C. The electrolytic action may be cathodic, anodic, preferably with the anodic stage last and with the coulomb level divided equally between the two stages. The electrolytic tinning may be effected in an acid phenolsulphonate or a sulphate bath and the tin coating may be reflowed by resistance heating.
