Abstract

1,161,550. Coating iron with copper. PYRENE CO. Ltd. July 24, 1968 [Aug. 5, 1967], No.35376/68. Heading C7F. A copper coating is formed on iron or an iron alloy by treating the workpiece with an aqueous acid solution containing copper ions, chloride ions, and acridine or an acridine derivative. The amount of acridine (or derivative) used is 0À01 to 1À0 g/1, and 3,6-bis-(dimethylamino)-acridine is the preferred derivative. The workpiece is previously cleaned by annealing, degreasing, and/or pickling, and then dipped into the plating bath, preferably at a temperature not more than 40‹C. The copper and chloride ions may be provided by copper sulphate and sodium chloride respectively, and the acridine may be added to the salt mixture for making up the solution, or else added later as an alcoholic solution.
