Abstract

1,171,328. Making tobacco-smoke filters. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. and N. W, JACKSON. 21 Aug., 1968 [22 Aug., 1967], No. 38583/67. Heading A2C. A method of making cigarette filter rods containing smoke-permeable stubs and quantities of particulate material in alternation along the length of a rod, comprises; arranging on a wrapping strip at spaced intervals stubs which are of larger cross-section and less density than required in the final product, conforming the strip with the surfaces of the stubs into a trough shape, feeding particulate material into the trough-shaped strip and between the stubs, folding the trough-shaped strip into a tube about the stubs to enclose the particulate material, and compressing the stubs to the desired cross-sectional size and density. The apparatus used is generally similar to a part of that disclosed in Specification 1,106,931 except that the succession of guides through which the garniture tape carries the wrapping strip are specially shaped to produce the above required shaping of the strip and compression of the stubs.
