Abstract

1,170,028. Frequency discriminators. PYE Ltd. 28 Aug., 1968, No. 41057/68. Heading H3A. A frequency discriminator comprises a transistor with signals whose relative phase is frequency dependent applied to two electrodes, demodulated signal being taken from a third electrode. Limiter T 1 feeds one input into the emitter of transistor T 2 via D.C. blocking capacitor C 1 and resistor R 1 and another into the base via capacitor C 3 and a shunt tuned circuit comprising capacitor C 2 , inductor L 2 and damping resistor R 3 . The collector of transistor T 2 is biased from terminal 3 via resistor R 4 , output being taken across capacitor C 4 which provides smoothing and D.C.-emphasis. The relative signal applied to the emitter of transistor T 2 may be adjusted by returning capacitor C 1 to a variable tapping point on resistor R 1 . Transistor T 2 may be of the fieldeffect type: alternatively, a double-gate field effect transistor may be used, the two R.F. inputs being applied to the respective gates.
