Abstract
1,169,771. Adjustable seats. K. RODER and P. RODER [trading as RODER SOHNE]. 7 Feb., 1967 [8 Feb., 1966], No. 5901/67. Heading A4J. In a vertical, telescopic load supporting member, the slotted lower end of tube 2 is expanded, to grip the interior wall of resiliantly mounted tube 3, by co-action between tapered rim 1b and indentations 2b, as the tube 1 is depressed, by allowing handle 19 to assume the lowered position. On lifting handle 19, nose 19a lifts tube 1 and releases the frictional engagement between tubes 2 and 3. Pneumatic spring 5 is then free to extend the member. When used to support a chair, the tube 3 is rotatably mounted in the chair base 10 by means of plastics bushes 12. The weight of the chair and occupant is transmitted to compression spring 9, housed in the base 10. A two part handle 19 (19b, Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) is employed to prevent the adjustment from being released while the chair is occupied. The spring 5 may be replaced by a coil spring (27, Fig. 3, not shown) or may be omitted (Fig. 1, not shown).
