1386804 Adjustable chairs F DRABERT 29 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 14681/72 Headings A4J and A4U In a chair having a seat member 1 tiltable about a horizontal axis 2 against a torsion bar spring 10, the undersurface of the seat member is formed with bearings 5 in which engage the ends of lateral hollow arms 4 of a cross-shaped carrier 3 secured to a pedestal (7), the arms 4 being hollow to accommodate a lever which is operative to effect height adjustment of the chair. The pretension of the torsion bar spring 10 which has its free ends 10a resting against the seat member and its centre against the rear end 3a of the carrier can be adjusted by a screw 11 passing through the rear end 3a. The front end 3b of the carrier carries a shock absorbent cap 14, the position of which can be adjusted by a screw 12.
