Abstract

1,168,861. Pressure sensitive electrical transducers. LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORP. Jan.16, 1967, No. 2329/67. Heading G1N. [Also in Division H1] Differential pressure is measured by ferrimagnetic transducers 60, 70, Fig. 8 each comprising a ferrite core having a Curie temperature of at least 750‹ C to which cores unidirectional pressures P1, P2 are applied. Alternatively each core may be subjected to environmental hydrostatic pressure, or may be embedded in prestressed concrete to measure internal stresses therein. In the Fig. 8 embodiment the cores are energized from a pulse generator 12 feeding primary windings 34, 36. Secondary windings 40, 42 are connected in series opposition across a transformer primary 52 and an output voltage at transformer secondary 54 is representative of the pressure difference - one transducer may be subjected to a known pressure. The cores may have a composition of 0À5 Ni Fe 2 O 4 + 0À5 Fe 3 O 4 by weight or alternatively may include 0À1 lithium or cobalt with 0À49 Ni Fe 2 O 4 + 0À5 Fe 3 O 4 . A method of making the ferrite core with the desired characteristics is described. (See Group H1, Class H1H). Elevation of the Curie temperature to 750‹ C is said to enhance the stress sensitivity of the core.
