Abstract
1,168,684. Primers. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 25 Aug., 1967 [27 Aug., 1966], No. 39200/67. Heading F3A. Primer comprising a substantially cylindrical case 1 containing a priming composition 4; means such as an electrode 3 for igniting the priming composition; and a resilient synthetic plastics cap comprising a base portion 6 bearing on the surface of the priming composition, and an upstanding wall 7 by means of which the cap is held in the case, the wall extending axially beyond the case 1 whereby the primer is rendered substantially shockproof and the danger of premature ignition is mitigated. The cap is advantageously formed of a fusible or combustible plastics material which will leave no residue on firing the primer. The cap can be formed of polyethylene and the priming composition may be electrically conductive. The cap can be positively anchored in the case by a co-operating groove and collar 8, 9 and the base of the cap may be strengthened with ribs. In other embodiments, the cap is given a stepped formation (Fig. 3, not shown), or is formed with a central aperture (13, Fig. 4, not shown) covered by a destructible paper or plastics foil (14). The primer can be arranged to be ignited by impact rather than electrically.
