In drafting apparatus, the loading arrangement of the pairs of upper twin rollers, comprises a spring formed of a conical winding of strip metal disposed vertically above the neck of the rollers in a housing which has means for adjusting the resilience of the spring. The housing a comprises a block ending in a fork 13 embracing the roller neck 12 and having a longitudinal bore containing the spring 15 which extends between a slide 17 and a washer 16, the slide bearing on the roller neck, while a screw 19 lockable by a nut 20 extends through a fixed stop 18 to bear on the washer. The position of the block is adjustable by means of a releasable bolt 10 extending through an. elongated slot 14 on the arm 8. A cover 4 is also provided. An alternative loading arrangement for the front roller 22 is also described. In this case, the block is carried by arms 25 extending forwardly from a shaft 24 at the lower end of a bracket 23 secured near the pivot of the arm, and the fork which embraces the neck extends forwardly of the block.
