Abstract

1,165,316. Locking screws. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 29 June, 1968, No. 31229/68. Heading F2H. A screw 1 having a radial hole 3 is provided with a deformable, plastics locking pin 5 the length of which is greater than the root diameter of the screw but is less than the external diameter of the screw. As shown, the pin is tapered and its end 6 projects beyond the roots of the thread. When a nut is engaged with the screw, the nut engages the end 6 thus exerting an axial force on the pin and causing it to cold flow so that the narrow end 10 of the pin also engages the threads of the nut. In a modification the pin is cylindrical and the hole is tapered. The pin is preferably made of nylon.
