A lock nut comprising an internally threaded body portion 11 and an integral tubular boss 13 extending from one end of the body portion 11 and formed with an internal screw thread which is a continuation of that of the body portion is characterized in that the annular end face 19 of the boss is axially indented at two or more regions 20 adjacent to the threaded bore of the boss so as to deform locally the pitch of the thread in the boss 13 without affecting the diameter of the thread. The indentations 20 may be formed by part cylindrical grooves extending radially of the axis of the nut and spaced angularly about the axis on the end face 19 of the boss.
