1,161,556. Continuous casting-machines; straightening. G. L. KHIMICH, V. M. NISKOVSKIKH, A. I. VARAXIN, E. J. GELFENBEIN and V. A. BYKOV. 9 Aug., 1966 [9 Aug., 1965], No. 35653/66. Headings B3E and B3F. A plant for continuously casting a metal strand 11 comprises a mould 5 having a curved axis, a mould oscillating mechanism 6 and an arrangement of walking bars 7 and rollers 9, 10 that gradually increase the radius of curvature of the strand 11 until it emerges straightened and horizontal to be fed into a cutter 22 for dividing the strand into ingots 23. Alternate rolls 14 of the lower set of rolls 10 are driven and spray cooling devices 20 are used to solidify the strand 11. The mould 5 is fed from a vessel 3 containing molten metal and supported on a carriage 2 movable on rails.
