Abstract

1,075,322. Continuous casting; bending and breaking metals. E. COLOMBO. April 5, 1965 [April 3, 1964], No. 14407/65. Headings B3E and B3F. A withdrawal and straightening unit for use in continuous casting a plurality of strands comprises a frame A in which are mounted two sets of withdrawal rolls 2 and co-operating counter-rolls 3 which extend the whole width of the frame. All the rolls are power driven and each set is positioned parallel to the other in spaced relationship along the axis of the castings being withdrawn. Each counter roll comprises a number of coaxial rollers and is carried at the free end of swinging arms 4 attached to the frame. The counter rolls are urged by fluid means 5 towards its respective withdrawal roll to grip the castings. Further rolls 10 and 13 are provided which effect the straightening of the strands as they leave the withdrawal rollers.
