A fitting suitable for a fluorescent tube 15 comprises a tripartite open-ended channelshaped member defined by side walls 2, 3 and a top 1, each side wall having at least one outwardly extending flange 6, 7 at the lower side thereof and the open side of the channel being closed by a removable light-transmitting cover 4. The flanges are adapted to support ceiling panels 8 and decorative facing members 9. A ballast unit 16 is mounted on a plate (17, Fig. 3, not shown) releasably secured in an aperture (18) in the top 1.
