Abstract

1,156,308. Repairing glass linings. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 8 Jan., 1968, No. 1166/68. Heading C1M. [Also in Division F2] A tantalum patch 10, to be secured over a resin-filled break in a glass lining 40 of a metal vessel 50 and which co-operates with a deformable gasket 15 between the patch 10 and lining 40, is provided with a flange from the outer edge 9 with angled walls 11 to give an upwardly inclined groove 12, the inner of the walls being shorter and joined to a straight portion 13; parallel to the surface of the gasket 15 through which holes 17 are provided for securing stud screws -and nuts 25, the straight portion 13 ending in a downwardly extending groove 14 and the patch being completed by a central raised portion 20. When the screws and nuts 25 are tightened, the groove 14 first presses into the gasket 15 and then acts as a fulcrum and edge 9 is pressed into the gasket 15 to complete the seal.
