Abstract

1,002,864. Tube &c. joints. ELPAG A.G. CHUR. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 15, 1962], No. 39837/63. Heading F2G. In means for fastening heaters, e.g. electrical tubular heaters, in an aperture in the wall 1 of a container comprising at least one seal 2 provided with holes 8 to receive the limbs of the heaters and at least one tightening member 3, the latter being adapted to compress the seal between a flange 4 and a plate 5 and press the seal against the edge of the aperture, means are provided to generate a pressure component in the material of the seal directed radially inwardly towards the heater-limbs 1, 12 and the member 3. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the holes 8 have a conical extension 8a, or may be stepped, the seal optionally having a flange 6 and being in one or more parts. In modifications, (a) frusto-conical rings 13, Fig. 3, surrounding the holes 8 are pressed into the material of the seal or annular projections are provided on the flange 4 and/or plate 5 or spacing rings are disposed around the limbs 11, 12 and between the seal and flange 4 and plate 5, (b) the holes 8 have conical extensions engaging in the holes 9 of the flange, (c) helical springs are embedded in the seal and surround the holes 8, and (d) annular lips are provided by forming depressions in the seal around the holes 8, the lips being acted on by fluid pressure and urged against the member 3 and limbs 11, 12.
