An electromagnetically, or hydraulically (not shown), engaged friction clutch has a multi-friction disc pack 1 arranged between a driving hub 4 and a driven spider 5, the coils, or turns, of a number of axially arranged helical coil springs being positioned between alternate plates 2 of the clutch disc pack to cause separation of the clutch discs on clutch disengagement.
