An electric motor whose stator 2 is sealed to enclose a cooling liquid, drives through hydraulic couplings 5. The rotor space may or may not be kept dry by a stator partition, and the coolant may be circulated through a cooler. The coolant may be oil, a phosphate ester, paraffin, or water, or an emulsion of oil and water, and may be the same liquid as is used in the hydraulic coupling.
