Abstract

1314651 Shaft seals A BLUM 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 26401/71 Heading F2B [Also in Division H2] In a motor-pump unit wherein the motor shaft 19 extends through an oil chamber 16 arranged between the motor casing 11 and the pump chamber 14 and is sealed through the walls of the oil chamber by packings 22, 24 which are lubricated by the oil in chamber 16, moisture penetrating the packing 22 is led through a duct 25 to a collecting chamber 26 containing a moisture-sensitive switch which disconnects the motor when excessive moisture is present. Alternatively, the switch may be located in the oil chamber as shown in dotted lines on the lefthand side of the drawing so as to be responsive to slight quantities of moisture present in the oil.
