Abstract

1,153,236. Two-part couplings. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. 13 Nov., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 51618/67. Heading H2E. In a multi-pole connector in which insulating shells 10, 12 surround contact-carrying inserts 19, an insulating cap 17 with contact-retaining shoulders and bores which house the forward ends 11, 13 of the contacts is threaded on to the forward end of each shell 10, 12. Lead wires 15 which are crimped to the contacts are gripped by a plastics collar 23, adjustable by a selftapping screw 22. Each insert 19 has contacthousing grooves (25, Fig. 4, not shown) which open on to its lateral surface. To assemble each connector half (Fig. 5, not shown), the leads 15 are inserted laterally in the grooves (25), and a cap 17 which contains the forward contact parts 11 or 13 is moved rearwardly until the rear contact ends 16 slide into the grooves (25), the shell 10 or 12 finally being threaded on the cap 17.
