Abstract

115,301. Brooke, W. May 18, 1917. Systems for continuous-carrent motors only; master control systems.-Contactors of the lockout type, employed in a motor control system, have shunt and series coils acting cumulatively, the shunt coils being located nearer than the series coils to the closing air gap of the contactor and being subject to manual control. The circuit of the motor C is completed through the resistances E, F, G, H by the contactor 1 when the controller is in position a. The resistance sections are controlled by contactors 2, 3, 4, 5 subject to the restraining action of the current. The series winding A<1> of the contactor 2 is connected across the resistance section E, and the series windings A<2>, A<3>, A<4> of the other contactors are connected across two sections. The controller may be moved to its final position and the contacts will operate automatically in order, or the controller may be moved one step at a time tu energize the shunt coils B<1>, B<2>, B<3>, B<4> separately. As each contactor closes, the series coil of the next contactor is left connected across one section only of resistance. As an additional means of ensuring the proper sequence, interlocks closed by the contactors may be included in the circuits of the shunt windings. The circuits of the series coils may include contacts on the controller 8. Specification 20534/11 is referred to.
