Abstract
1,152,581. Ventilating valves. BOCHUMER EISENHœTTE HEINTZMANN & CO. 25 May, 1966 [5 July, 1965], No. 23325/66. Heading F4V. [Also in Division G3] A closure for ventilation shafts automatically closable upon sudden changes in the ambient atmosphere comprises a double acting piston 7 carrying the closure, the pressure applied to the upper side of the piston through a pipe 8 exceeding the pressure supplied through a pipe 9 which normally maintains the closure in its open position. This difference in pressure ensures rapid closing when pipe 9 is open to exhaust. Sensing means 27 may be responsive to pressure, temperature, radiation intensity, or may be a Geiger counter, and controls two electromagnetic valves 17, 19 controlling the flow in pipes 9, 8 respectively from reservoirs 18, 20 to the cylinder 6. Reservoir 18 is at a lower pressure than reservoir 20. The cylinder 6 is appreciably longer than the stroke of piston 7 necessary to close the closure. The closure may be arranged in a horizontal shaft (Fig. 2) and a fan (2, Fig. 1) may be provided. The closure (4, Fig. 1) seats on sealing means (3a, Fig. 1).
