Abstract

1,152,510. Rolling threads. DETROIT TAP & TOOL CO. Ltd. 18 Aug., 1967, No. 38239/67. Heading B3M. A tool holder for thread rolling, or knurling, tools includes a base 21 which carries two tools 22 and 23 in cantilever fashion on shafts 39 and 62. The base 21 includes blocks 31 and 43 which each carry a tool, and which are relatively angularly adjustable about a pivot 45 by means of screws 51 and 56. Gears 88, 93, 97, 99, and 105 maintain the tools in synchronization, the central gear 97 being axially withdrawable to permit adjustment of the synchronization. Some play is provided between keys 91 and 107 on the gears 88 and 105, and the respective tools. Each tool carrying shaft is removable from its tapered bore and is adjustable for alignment with the bore by means of screws 113, 114 and 115. Bearings 83 and 85 are provided between the outer flanged end of each shaft and the tools and also between the tools and the respective blocks 31 and 43.
