Abstract
1,152,241. Cutting or welding by fusion. J. M. GULLEY. 3 May, 1966 [3 May, 1965; 28 Oct., 1965], Nos. 18473/65 and 45629/65. Headings B3R and B3V. A carriage mounting a welding or cutting tool and for use with a track 45 as described in Specification 1,152,242 comprises roller assemblies 50, 51 adapted to lock the carriage in travelling engagement with the rails 47 of the track and a driving pinion 32 movable into engagement with a rack 33 on the strip-like body of the track 45. The pinion 32 and its driving motor 13 are mounted on an arm pivoted to the frame 10 of the carriage. A spring urges the pinion into engagement with the rack 33 and a manually actuable lever serves to lift the arm and disengage the pinion 32 from the rack 33 to allow the carriage to be moved by hand. To facilitate movement along an undulating track the pinion 32 is located between an opposed pair of roller assemblies 50, 51. Each roller assembly comprises a pair of angled rollers 57 on a stub shaft 50, 54 journalled in the frame 10. The stub-shafts 50 on one side of the carriage are axially movable to unlock the carriage from the track 45 but are normally secured by latches 58 lockable in the position shown.
