Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] Cobalt/carbon catalysts are made by heating activated carbon, onto which Co, and Cu and/or Ni have been introduced by deposition of their salts other than nitrate (a) in a mixture of inert gas and molecular oxygen at temperatures of 150-450‹C. and then (b) in an inert gas containing no molecular oxygen. The process may be applied to fresh or spent metal(s) on carbon. The active carbon may be treated with steam at 1200‹C.
