1,147,749. Amino-terminated polyesters. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 4 Sept., 1967, No. 40237/67. Heading C3R. [Also in Division C5] Amino-terminated polyesters are made by reacting a carboxyl-terminated linear polyester with thionyl chloride to convert the carboxyl groups to acid chloride groups and then reacting the product with a polyamine. If polyesters containing only one terminal amino group are required, one of the two carboxyl groups of the initial polyester is first esterified with a monohydric alcohol. Specified aminoterminated polyesters are (a) polyesters of decane-1,10-dicarboxylic acid and 2-ethyl- 2-n-butylpropane-1,3-diol which contain two terminal groups comprising amino nitrogen that have been derived from N,N-dimethylpropane-1,3,diamine; (b) polyesters of sebacic acid and 2-ethyl-2-n-butylpropane-1,3-diol which contain two terminal groups comprising amino nitrogen that have been derived from tetraethylenepentamine; (c) polyesters of sebacic acid and 2-ethyl-2-n-butylpropane-1,3-diol which contain one terminal ester group derived from 3,5,5-trimethylhexanol-1 and one terminal group comprising amino nitrogen that has been derived from tetraethylenepentamine. Lubricants comprise a major proportion of a synthetic monomeric or polymeric ester lubricant and a minor proportion (e.g. 0À1 to 20% by weight) of the amino-terminated polyester (see Division C5).
