Abstract

1313924 Complex ester VEBA-CHEMIE AG 19 May 1970 [21 May 1969] 24191/70 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] A complex ester having a molecular weight in the range of from 500 to 5000 is prepared by transesterifying a dicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester with 2,2,4- or 2,4,4-trimethylhexanediol- (1,6), in the ratio of 1 to 10 moles of ester per mole of diol, the dicarboxylic acid component of the ester being unbranched and having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, and the alkyl groups thereof each being obtained from a branched chain primary alcohol having 4 to 14 carbon atoms. In the examples complex esters are prepared from the di-(2-ethylhexyl) and di-(isodecyl) esters of adipic, sebacic, azelaic and decanedicarboxylic acids. The complex esters of the invention may be used in the preparation of lubricant compositions.
