Abstract

1,147,207. Electric slicing knives. SUNBEAM CORP. 15 June, 1966 [16 June, 1965], No. 26788/66 Heading A4C. [Also in Division B1] A domestic hand-held mixer has at least one (as shown two) removable beater 11 and one or a pair of (oppositely reciprocating) knives 12 at the other end of the mixer. Each knife blade is retained in a carrier 30 by engagement of a lug 35 in an aperture 35<SP>1</SP> of a spring 34; depression of blade release buttons 42 acting on tongues 36 of springs 34 causes the latter to rock against the blades to separate the lug and aperture which are then moved out of register by spring 41. The blades are reciprocated by worm 26<SP>1</SP> driving worm gears 27<SP>1</SP> (Figs. 2 and 5, not shown) each of which has a depending pin 32 engaging in a block 43 slidable in a slot 33 in integral portions 30<SP>1</SP> of the blade carriers 30. The motor is controlled by a multispeed switch 24 for the beaters operated by a rotatable knob 25, in parallel with a thumb-pressure switch 37, 38 for the knives; when the beaters are ejected the switch 24, 25 is locked in the 'off' position so that the device with knives attached will not be inadvertently started by insertion of the electrical connecting plug in its socket.
