Abstract

1,199,866. Cutting tools. SUNBEAM CORP. 24 April, 1968 [10 July, 1967], No. 19500/68. Heading B4B. [Also in Division H1] ] An electric knife comprises a housing enclosing a motor 14 and means 22 coupled to the motor for reciprocating holders 19 for the blades 12, the motor being energizable by a switch which is actuatable by means of a manually operable spring-influenced trigger 29 pivotally mounted in the housing. The housing comprises lower and upper members 15, 16 which co-operate to form a motor chamber 17 and a switch chamber 18. A lengthwise movable plunger 55, Fig. 8, in one of its positions restrains the trigger from pivoting and in the other of its positions allows the trigger to pivot. The plunger has a rounded projection 60 which engages one of two notches 61 to retain the plunger in each of its positions. Fingers 63 extending from the trigger overlie the plunger when it is in its locking position but align with notches 64 when the plunger is moved to allow the trigger to pivot. The switch comprises fixed and movable contacts 38, 39 enclosed in a cuplike cover member 30 which forms one of the legs of the trigger. The contacts are carried by a support 35 integral with the rear tubular guide 34 for the blade holders 19.
