Abstract

1,144,563. Treating keratinous fibre fabric. IWS NOMINEE CO. Ltd. 2 March, 1966 [2 March, 1965], No. 8906/65. Heading D1P. Fabric comprising keratinous fibres, e.g. woven and non-woven woollen fabrics, is presensitised for a subsequent setting operation by treating it with an alkaline aqueous solution of an aliphatic amine sulphite and/or bisulphite at a pH of 8-9.5 and then drying it. The subsequent setting which may be effected by the garment manufacturer may comprise flat setting or permanent pleating or creasing. The drying of the fabric may be effected at ambient temperature or slightly above under as little tension as possible and the fabric may then be subjected to dry blowing with steam. The amine sulphite and/or bisulphite which may be present in the solution in a concentration of 2.5-15% by weight may be a sulphite and/or bisulphite of an alkylamide having 1-6 carbon atoms, of an alkyl or alkylene polyamine or of a mono-, di- or trialkanolamine. The solution may be buffered to the desired pH by the addition of an amine. The solution may also contain 0.05-1% by weight of a cationic, anionic or non-ionic wetting agent and 5-12% by weight of a humectant, e.g. urea or ethylene glycol.
