Abstract
1,142,672. Endless conveyers. CHANCE BROS Ltd. 9 June, 1966 [21 June, 1965], No. 26169/65. Heading B8A. [Also in Division G1] In apparatus for sorting glass tubes from a selection of lengths those which are of a predetermined length, the tubes are conveyed in grooves 2 of a conveyer 1 between a working face 9 and an inspection face 10, the distance apart of the faces 9, 10 being the required length of tube. Tubes which are of a greater length are inclined at one end by a sloping edge 12, and those of the correct length or of a shorter length pass straight along. Spring sheet member 14 prevents those of only a slight variation in length from falling back on to the conveyer. Subsequently, all the over-long tubes are moved laterally by an angled face 16 so that as they fall back on to the conveyer their ends extend beyond the ends of the remainder, under a trip wire 17. The trip wire 17 bends downwardly and causes the over-long tubes to tilt downwards into a shoot 18. Further along the conveyer system, a further pair of surfaces 21, 22 are provided, the distance between the surfaces being just less than the required distance, so that those of the required length are raised at one end. The other tubes are deflected away into a shoot 26 by a trip wire 25. A pivoted arm rests on the tubes as they pass block 20 to rotate the tubes whilst they pass an inspection edge for determining whether the end face of the tube has an irregular edge, tubes having an irregular end surface falling off the inspection edge.
