Abstract
1,142,402. Dehydrogenation of oxygenated hydroaromatic compounds. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. 25 Oct., 1966 [5 Nov., 1965], No. 47801/66. Heading C2C. A process for dehydrogenation of oxygenated hydroaromatic compounds comprises contacting an oxygenated hydroaromatic compound wherein the oxygen is directly connected to a hydroaromatic ring carbon atom under dehydrogenation conditions with a catalyst comprising tin. The catalyst may consist essentially of tin on an inert support or may comprise tin and at least one Group VIII metal wherein the molar ratio of the Group VIII metal and tin is at least 1-7 1 and may also include an alkali metal sulphate or alkaline earth metal sulphate and chromium. The product recovered may comprise a compound which is less saturated with hydrogen and which has an increased number of rings per molecule than the oxygenated hydroaromatic, e.g. cyclohexenyl cyclohexanone obtained from monooxygenated cyclohexane or has the same number of rings as the oxygenated hydroaromatic compound, e.g. phenol from monooxygenated cyclohexane and in this case the catalyst must contain the Group VIII metal.
