Abstract

1,141,819. Doffing apparatus. DRAPER CORP. 10 Jan., 1967, No. 1299/67. Heading D1D. In doffing apparatus comprising a carriage 14 adapted to be mounted on a side of a spinning to move along the row of spindles, and a wheeled supporting frame 31 movable in unison with the carriage, the frame having pivotally attached thereto a carriage guide 41 on which the carriage is mounted to slide vertically. The carriage 14 has flanged rollers 15, 16 which, when the apparatus is in use, are mounted on a rail (11, Fig. 2 not shown) on the side of a spinning frame. The carriage carries doffing mechanism 13 of the kind in which the bobbins are lifted by a cam which may be fixed as shown at 17 or vertically movable. The supporting frame 31 comprises a platform 36 having wheels 35 and, at the side nearest the spinning frame when the apparatus is in use, uprights 37, 38 interconnected by cross-members 39, 40. The carriageguide 41 comprises cross-members 42, 43 held together by tie-bars 44, 45, and is connected to the cross-bar 39 of the supporting-frame by a universal joint at 47. The cross-members 42, 43 have wheels 50 on which can slide bars 22, 23 connected at one end to the carriage 14 and at the other to a bar 26 having rollers 29 with tapered extensions 30. A cable is connected to the bar 26 and, passing over a pulley 35 carried by the cross-bar 39 of the supporting frame, is secured to a pivoted lever 51. By moving the lever, the carriage guide 41, and with it the carriage 14 and doffing mechanism 13, can be raised and lowered; when the lever is moved to the left the carriage guide is raised to a point where it can be removed from the spinning frame or from which it can be lowered on to the rail (11), during which operation the tapered-members 30 act to guide the rollers 29 into register with a second rail (12) of the spinning frame. The carriage 14 and guide 41 are urged towards the spinning-frame by springs at 59 compressed between the tie-bars 44, 45 and the cross-member 40 of the supporting frame. The universal joint at 47 allows the doffing frame to move relatively to the supporting frame. The platform 36 of the supporting frame can be lowered and raised so that it can be passed beneath and transport a container 21 for doffed bobbins. End members 33 and 32 each hold a member 34, Fig. 4, carrying the platform, and having a profiled surface providing recesses 60, 61 cooperating with pins 63 on the member 32 and 33. The recesses 61 are deeper than the recesses 60, so that the members 34 are raised when they are moved to the right from the lowered position shown. The members are spring-loaded and connected by fingers 71 to a bar 68 connected to a pedal 70 which when depressed, moves the members to the right, at the same time bringing a finger 76 into engagement with a pivoted footlever 75. When this is depressed, the pedal 70 and the members 32, 33 are restored to their original positions.
