Abstract

1,137,278. Floating bridges and rafts. SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DEFENCE. 12 Sept., 1967 [1 Sept., 1966], No. 39176/66. Heading B7A. [Also in Division E1] A load-carrying structure, such as a floating bridge or raft, is comprised of a number of sections 1 joined at their lower edges by interlocking spaced members 4 and having compression faces 7 at the upper edges retained in juxtaposition by connecting members 10. The interlocking members 4 are T-shaped projections with the heads of one section engaging between the stems of the adjoining section. The connecting members 10 are T-headed bolts, having camming tightening means, the heads engaging slots in the adjoining compression face 7. Kerbs 3 are hinged at the top sides and are supported in operative position by supports 22. Tapered ramps 2 having similar interlocking means may be joined at the ends or through articulated sections 15, hinged at 16 and having a cover-plate 17. Pneumatic floats 18 may be secured to the ends of the section to increase the buoyancy of the floating bridge or raft and sponsons 19 having outboard engines 20a may be attached.
