Abstract

1,135,643. Antimicrobial and mucolytic compositions. A. KRAUS. 2 March, 1966 [3 March, 1965], No. 9049/65. Heading A5B. Antimicrobial and mucolytic compositions comprise lactic acid and/or a salt thereof and ascorbic acid and/or a salt thereof and an amount of a water-soluble copper salt sufficient to catalyse the oxidation of ascorbic acid by atmospheric oxygen. Examples of suitable salts include sodium lactate or ascorbate, calcium lactate and copper sulphate. The ascorbic acid or a salt thereof may be in the form of the juice of citrus fruits and sour milk or yogurt may comprise the lactic acid constituent. The compositions may be in the form of a shaving aid, aerosol spray, compressed tablets, chewing tablets, chocolate or sweets in addition to those forms disclosed in Specification 929,351. The compositions may contain other antibacterial or therapeutic compounds or fungicidals.
