Abstract

1,134,243. Fibrillated polyolefine tapes. COURTAULDS Ltd. 23 March, 1966, No. 12746/66. Addition to 1,035,657. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] The process of the parent Specification, wherein a polyolefine (e.g. polypropylene) tape having closely spaced, parallel continuous ribs with substantially constant cross-sections along their length is extruded, the ribs having a magnitude corresponding to filaments of less than 80 denier, pairs of adjacent ribs being connected to each other by a continuous web extending along the whole length of the ribs, stretching the tape longitudinally and then splitting at least some of the webs connecting pairs of adjacent ribs at intervals along the length, is modified in that the splitting is effected by twisting the tape, whereby a yarn is formed.
