Abstract

1,134,102. Mitering. S. G. YOUNG. 20 Dec., 1965 [18 Sept., 1964], No. 38251/64. Heading B5L. A mitre unit comprises a vice 3 fixed to a bed 1 and an angularly adjustable vice 2 pivotable about a central pin 14, and a looking clamp 20 for the movable vice 2 operated by a screw 17, the screw being located beyond the periphery of the bed 1. As shown L-shaped clamp members 18, 19 are drawn together by a screw 17, the member 19 engaging in an arcuate blind groove in the underface of the bed 1. In a preferred modification (Fig. 8, not shown) the screw is engaged in a threaded hole (52) in the bracket (51) and has a head (55) which, when the screw is turned by a slot in the other end, is drawn against a ledge (56) on the underside of the bed. An angularly adjustable saw-guide 25 is releasably attached to the pivot pin 25 by a yoke 36 which fits into an emplacement provided by a step on the pin. The guide slot 44 for the saw blade is bounded by two separable plates having spaced and parallel confronting walls 31, 32 which extend beyond the slot 44. The extensions 33, 34 are in contact along a surface 5 that is inclined with respect to the parallel walls. The plates are releasably connected by screws 35 that are threadedly engaged in one plate and freely passed through slots in the other so that on loosening the screws the plates may be relatively displaced so that the portions 31, 32 become more closely or widely spaced.
