1,130,899. Valves. DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS Ltd. 19 Nov.. 1965 [21 Nov., 1964], No. 17162/65. Heading F2V. A fluid seal for a member slidable between opposed flat surfaces 19, 21, for use in slide valves, comprises a correspondingly flat surfaced component 14 movable parallel to the surfaces 19, 21 and having a transverse passage 13 which houses a sealing device. This device consists of a pair of hollow bushes 11, 12 arranged back-to-back with a single sealing ring 23 of resilient material such as rubber between them, which urges the bushes into sealing engagement with the surfaces 19, 21. The sealing ring may be bonded to the bushes and may be supplemented by a mechanical spring. The area of the outer end faces of the bushes may be reduced as at 25.
