Abstract

1,130,626. Barge-carrying cargo ships. TURNBULL MARINE DESIGN CO. 13 July, 1967 [18 July, 1966], No. 32247/66. Heading B7A. A cargo ship has a watertight dock compartment 12 extending transversely of the ship, an access opening 16 in at least one side of the ship for allowing vessels (cargo containing barges) 29 to be floated through the opening into and from the dock compartment, and means, such as a door 15 and an inflatable hose 18, for forming a watertight closure over the opening. The ship has a valve arrangement 20 for flooding the compartment, an arrangement 22 for pumping water therefrom, a plurality of storage compartments 14 disposed forward and aft of the dock compartment, and a crane 26 movable over the dock and storage compartments for transferring the vessels 29 therebetween.
