Abstract

1,129,496. Shaft seals. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. 3 Aug., 1967 [26 Aug., 1966], No. 38316/66. Heading F2B. A face seal comprises a sealing ring I which is mounted in a carrier ring 2 of elastomeric material and urged axially in use into facial contact with a co-operating part by a helical spring 6, the ring 2 having a cuff 3 which is constricted radially by at least one convolution 5 of the spring 6. The end of the spring remote from the ring 1 is formed as a lug 7. As applied to an impeller pump, Fig. 2, the seal is mounted on the shaft 10 with the cuff 3 constricted thereon by the convolution 5, the lug 7 engaging a hole 12 in the impeller 9 and the ring 1 pressed by the spring 6 into sealing contact with a bearing bush 11.
