Abstract
1,127,789. Spray-producers. GEMA AG. APPARATEBAU. 17 Dec., 1965. No. 53605/65. Heading B2F. An apparatus suitable for spraying a powder supplied in a stream of carrier gas by an insulating feed pipe 1 comprises a non- conduotive conduit 2 within which the powder is charged by friction, a funnel-shaped member 3 located at the outlet end of the conduit 2, a non-conductive cylindrical rotor 4 mounted around the members 2 and 3, and a baffle plate 7 situated between the member 3 and the outlet end of the rotor 4. The discharge may be adjusted to produce different coatings or to coat different objects by altering the moisture content of the powder or the vapour content of the carrier gas stream or by partially ionizing the gas stream. In addition the rotor may be rotated at different speeds to draw carrier gas off laterally, provided with extensions, or adjusted axially; the pipe 1 may be partially earthed, and semi-conductor devices may be located between earth and the conduit 2 or the pipe 1. The article to be coated is connected to a reference, e.g. earth, potential. The selfinduced charge may be supplemented by the use of a high alternating potential if the powder used quickly loses its charge. A screen in the form of a series of bars 6 is mounted on the exterior of the rotor and creates a rotating mass of air. The plate 7 is centrally apertured and may be moved out of the stream path.
