In a fuel injection pump comprising a pair of plungers 1, 2 of equal dimensions having inclined control edges, the delivery of the plungers is adjusted from a common lever by respective hollow rods 7 and 8 such that the plunger 2 delivers fuel up to approximately 30% of the full output and then the plungers deliver together. The rod 7 and plunger 2 have a direct rack and pinion engagement and the rod 8 operates the plunger 1 through the pinion 11. The common lever (9), Fig. 2 (not shown), operated by a governor (10) or manually, acts on rods 7 and 8 by means of rods 14 and 15, the rod 15 not moving the rod 8 until abutment occurs between the collar 20 and member 19. The plungers 1, 2 deliver to separate delivery conduits connected to a common conduit downstream of non-return valves.
