Abstract

1,123,375. Reciprocating pumps and motors. SUNDSTRAND CORP. Aug. 26, 1965 [Nov. 5, 1964], No. 36799/65. Heading F1A. A swash-plate pump or motor comprises a rotary cylinder block 17 engaging a ported valve block 61 and having pistons 26 coupled to a ring 33, engaging the swash-plate 35, by ball jointed connecting rods 29 which are maintained substantially perpendicular to ring 33 by a retaining ring 50 to reduce side loads on the pistons, the ring 50 also transmitting station to ring 33 through rods 29. Biasing between ring 50 and cylinder block 17 is effected by springs 52. The swash-plate 35 has tracks 45 engaged by rollers 40, 41 to permit tilting of the swash-plate by a piston 78 subjected to the output pressure and acting against a spring 82. The bearing surfaces between ring 33 and swash-plate 35 are lubricated and hydraulically balanced by working liquid via passages in the pistons and connecting rods. A seal on the drive shaft 13 comprises a member 89 rotating with the shaft and engaging a spring-loaded member 88 on the housing.
