Abstract

1,118,197. Printing machines. REIDELBERGER DRUCKMASCHINEN A.G. 13 Oct., 1965 [14 Oct., 1964], No. 43474/65. Heading B6C. Apparatus for mounting and tripping the central cylinder 2 of a three-cylinder printing- press comprises two supports diametrically opposite the cylinders 1, 3 and against which the shaft at each end of the cylinder 2 is resiliently pressed and means associated with or co-operating with the supports so that operation of the means causes the cylinder 2 to be moved first out of engagement with the cylinder 1 and subsequently out of engagement with cylinder 3. As shown the cylinder 2 is the blanket cylinder of an offset printing machine but it may be a plate cylinder in which case the cylinder 1 is an inking cylinder. In one embodiment, Figs. 1, 2, the shaft ends 7 of a rubber offset-cylinder 2 are carried by bearing rings 8 supported by rollers 9, 10, 11, the rollers 9, 10 being diametrically opposite to the impression and plate cylinders 3, 1 respectively. The roller 11 is subjected to spring or hydraulic pressure 12 so as to urge the rings 8 against the rollers 9, 10 which are mounted in eccentric bearings adjustable by devices 13, 14. Two flats 15, 16, Fig. 2, are provided on the rings 8, so that if the rings are rotated by a device 17 . . . 19 from the position shown wherein the cylinder 2 is in operative position, first the flat 15 is positioned adjacent to the roller 9, so that the cylinder 2 is moved tangentially to cylinder 1 and away from cylinder 3, and subsequently the flat 16 is adjacent to roller 10 so that the cylinder 2 is moved away from cylinder 1. In one modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the rollers 9, 10, 11 are arranged with respect to cylinder 2 in positions diametrically opposite to those illustrated in Fig. 1, and raised parts on the rings 8 then cause tripping of the cylinder 2 as the rings 8 are rotated. According to another embodiment, Fig. 4, the rings 8 are not rotatable, and the rollers 9, 10 are carried by eccentric shafts 20, 21 rotatable by linkages 22, 23 so that the cylinder 2 can be moved away from the cylinders 1, 2 by the pressure of spring-urged roller 11, and in the same sequence as described with reference to Fig. 1. As shown, the roller 11 engages the shaft 7 directly through openings 25 in the rings 8, but all three rollers 9, 10, 11 may bear directly on the shaft. The rollers 9, 10 may be replaced by adjustable wedges (Fig. 6, not shown), engaging flats on the rings 8, and a spring- pressed block may be used instead of the roller 11.
