Abstract

1,116,700. Drying &c. PROCTOR & SCHWARTZ Inc. 9 Jan., 1967 [10 Jan., 1966], No. 1115/67. Heading F4G. [Also in Division F2] A drying chamber comprises side walls 12, end walls 13 having portals for the admission and discharge of, the materials to be dried, and a roof structure, 15. The material is fed through the dryer by conveyers (not shown) and is dried by heated air circulated by central blowers (not shown) having, drive mechanisms 16 mounted on the side walls 12, and overhead exhaust ducts 20. Infiltration of fresh gaseous drying medium into the chamber is controlled by air lock exhausts 17 and exhaust blower elements 18 mounted on the roof structure 15. Access doors 19 are provided in the side walls for access of personnel. The chamber is erected with prefabricated panel members comprising, fibrous batt-type insulating elements 58 received between spaced apart, resilient, aluminized steel sheets 51 and 52, each sheet being provided at its edge with a resilient inturned flange 54 and an outer reversely turned lip 55 co-operating with the flange to define a slot extending along the edge of the panel. Adjacent wall or ceiling panels are joined together at their edges by U- shaped clips 65, the legs of which are gripped between the lips and flanges of the adjacent panels. Sealant may be introduced into the joints so as to form a gas-tight seal. The ceiling panels are connected to the wall panels by a T- shaped rail (95), Fig. 4 (not shown), the leg (96) of which engages the slot in the wall panel and the cross-piece (97) of which engages the slot in the ceiling panel. Where the ceiling panels are connected for free vertical displacement in the event of an explosion in the drying chamber, the ceiling panels rest upon L-shaped support strips (109), Fig. 12 (not shown), mounted on the T-shaped rails (95) and upon L-shaped support strips (110), Fig. 13 (not shown), which are carried within the slots of adjacent fixed ceiling panels. The lowermost wall panels are engaged between the upstanding legs (61) and (62) of a U-shaped sill (60) which is anchored to the foundations upon which the drying chamber is to be erected.
