Abstract

Fibrous products are bonded by applying to at least one product a bonding medium comprising a mixture of a fibre- or film-forming polyamide which is soluble in an alcohol-water mixture, and an organic acid curing agent, drying without curing at a temperature not above 90 DEG C, bringing a surface of the product into contact with another surface, and subjecting the surfaces to pressure at a temperature above 90 DEG C to cure the bonding medium and bond the surfaces. The fibrous products may be woven or non-woven, and the polyamide may be solubilized by reaction with an aldehyde and an alcohol to form, e.g. a methoxymethyl derivative. A plasticizer, e.g. paratoluenesulphonamide, may be mixed with the polyamide. Curing agents referred to are citric, aconitic, oxalic, toluene-suphonic, phthalic, salicylic, tartaric, sulphanilic, tannic and thiosalicylic acids. In Fig. 7 (not shown) solubilized polyamide and citric acid are dissolved in the same solvent mixture as above, and a cotton batting or sliver impregnated with this solution. The bonds formed withstand laundering and dry cleaning.
