Abstract
Pleating of fabric having little or no thermoplasticity, is attained by wetting with water the folded parts obtd. by adhering fabric of fibre having high thermoplasticity to the back of the fabric having high little or no thermosplasticity, then thermally pressing, by holding the pleated part of the doubled fabric between the heating plates of high frequency heating apparatus. The presence of moisture, helps enhance the dielectricity during heating, and the pleated part of the doubled fabric can be uniformly heated in a short time. If a suitable quantity of reducing agent (e.g. monoethanol amine sulphite) is dissolved in the water to be applied to the pleat, and if the coating side fabric is wool, the wetting agent not only improves dielectricity but also helps promote setting of pleat on wool fabric on the coating side. The process is applicable to fabrics of cotton, wool, etc. There is no danger or risk of damaging the feel of fabric such as wool, cotton, etc., unlike heat pressing treatment by electric heat or steam heating process. It is essential to wet before hand the double cloth adhered to highly thermoplastic cloth. The moisture regain is convenient ca 10% against wt. of fabric. Means employed for wetting the cloth are spraying or padding. The heating is pref. effected with ca. 0.2 kg/sq. cm. pressure, for 5 secs. or more in case of high frequency waves of about 40 megacycles.
