Abstract

1,221,751. Cross-linking textile materials. HOESCH-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. DUREN CHEMIE. 12 March, 1969 [16 March, 1968], No. 13085/69. Heading DIP. Cellulosic textile materials in wet, moist or dry condition are treated to improve their wash and wear properties with a nitrogen-conteining methylol compound using a thermally unstable acid catalyst viz. trichloroacetic acid either alone or in combination with a salt thereof, or salt of trichloroacetic acid together with a conventional cross-linking catalyst, the catalyst being thermally destroyed when the reaction has been completed. The process may be combined with a dyeing operation in which case the catalyst components are chosen so that the textile material will be alkaline on completion of the heat treatment.
