Abstract
Boric acid or oxide is added to the reaction mixture before firing in preparing a luminescent silicate of one or more of calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium and zinc, activated by lead alone or with manganese; the boric acid (H3BO3) is 0.5-6 mol per cent (best 3.5 mol per cent) of the heat metal. The phosphor is sensitive to short-wave u-v, e.g. 253.7 mm., and emits long-wave u-v with maxima at 300-365 mm.
