Abstract

1,107,870. Coupling circuits for fault current suppression. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. 13 April, 1965 [13 April, 1964], No. 15793/65. Heading H2H. A coupling circuit for two A.C. electrical networks I, II comprises a choke coil X forming the primary winding of a transformer whose secondary winding Y is normally connected to a load D by rectifier switches S1, S2 controlled by a circuit CL responsive to the current flow between the networks. Should this current exceed a predetermined value switches S1, S2 are opened, thereby increasing the reactance of coil X to limit the fault current. After fault clearance switches S1, S2 may be "closed" gradually to limit system disturbance. Members Y, D may be omitted and an anti-parallel combination of switches S1, S2 connected across a major portion of the choke coil X, Fig. 1 (not shown). The choke D may be replaced by or combined with an ohmic resistance. The coil X may comprise several seriesconnected inductances which are inserted progressively under fault conditions. Switches S1, S2 may comprise banks of ignitrons, mercury arc rectifiers or silicon controlled rectifiers.
